Why God Is Delaying Your Healing

Due to humanity’s transgression, which brought separation from God's fellowship, God sent Jesus to endure suffering and a brutal execution on the cross so that all people could have a bridge back to fellowship with Him and receive His blessings.

Jesus not only purchased the salvation of our souls on the cross, but His sufferings also secured our physical healing.

Isaiah 53:5 says, "He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him, and with His stripes, we are healed." The stripes mentioned by Isaiah refer to the awful lashings inflicted on Jesus’ back by Roman whips. Thirty-nine stripes were the traditional punishment for a condemned prisoner.

According to 1 Peter 2:24, these stripes upon Christ were for our healing. Since the Bible indicates that healing is part of the reason for our Lord’s suffering, there is no justification for you to continue enduring torment from sickness. During Jesus’ earthly ministry, there were eleven recorded occasions when individuals approached Him for healing, and not once did He turn anyone away.

In one instance, a leper came to Jesus, inquiring whether it was His will to heal him. He said, "Lord, if it is Your will, You can heal me." Jesus extended His hand and said, "It is My will; be healed!" Immediately, the man’s leprosy vanished.

However, sometimes it seems as if God does not hear our prayers for healing or that the healing is taking too long. We pray for years, fast, and seek God's healing, but nothing happens. When this is the case, there are reasons why healing may be delayed. Let’s examine some of them.

1. Sin as a Hindrance to Healing

The delay in your healing could be due to certain hindrances in your life blocking the power of God from flowing into your body. When these hindrances are addressed and removed, healing will come. God is always willing to heal, but sometimes a particular sinful lifestyle may prevent His power from moving freely.

Sin is dangerous, and Satan exploits it effectively against your healing. He makes you feel condemned and guilty, thereby weakening your faith and making you believe you are unworthy of receiving anything from God. This is not to say that God cannot heal you even when sin is present in your life, but most of the time, He desires that you break away from sin and live righteously before Him.

2. Demonic Oppression as a Cause of Sickness

Healing is often blocked when the demonic cause of the affliction has not been addressed. In such cases, deliverance becomes necessary. Many people do not realize that healing and deliverance often go hand in hand.

Consider an example from the Gospel of Luke. Luke 4:40-41 says, "When the sun was setting, all those who had any sick with diverse diseases brought them to Him, and He laid His hands on every one of them and healed them. And devils also came out of many, crying out and saying, 'You are Christ, the Son of God.' And He rebuked them and did not allow them to speak, for they knew that He was Christ."

The demons were responsible for the diseases, and for God to heal the sick, He first had to deliver them from the spirits causing their afflictions by casting the demons away.

3. Healing Delayed for a Spiritual Lesson

God is often more concerned with healing our spiritual infirmities than our physical ailments. Sometimes, He does so through illnesses that humble us, force us to rely on Him, and conform us to the image of Christ.

When we are healthy, we do not always appreciate health as a gift from God. Instead, we become so preoccupied with the daily struggles of life—pursuing money and ambitions—that we dedicate little or no time to God.

In such cases, God may allow sickness to persist until the individual learns the lesson that no matter how busy life gets, there must always be time for God.

Sometimes, healing is delayed because it is not yet God’s appointed time. A delay does not mean that God is neglecting you; rather, He may be waiting for the moment when the glory of your healing will be even greater.

Healing is God’s will for His children, but to fully receive it, we must ensure that nothing stands in the way. If healing seems delayed, take time to examine your life and deal with anything that may be restricting it—whether it be sin, unbelief, or spiritual opposition.

God’s power is always available, but we must align ourselves with His Word, trust in His promises, and remove any barriers that hinder His healing touch.

Take a step of faith today—repent where necessary, rebuke what needs to be rebuked, and stand firmly on God's Word. As you do this, healing will flow into your life, and you will walk in the wholeness that Christ has already purchased for you.

May God grant you wisdom, strength, and complete healing in Jesus’ name. Amen.
