How to Stop Worrying: Three Steps to Finding Peace
If there was ever a time when people worried excessively, it would be now. Human survival has become more challenging than ever before. We worry about our finances, health, spouse, children, parents, unforeseen dangers, and countless other concerns. But does worrying help in solving these problems? Of course not.
Here are three steps you should take to stop worrying and find peace.
1. Understand That Worrying Will Not Change Anything
Worrying does not solve problems; it only adds unnecessary stress to our lives. The reality is that troubles are inevitable, but when we worry, we double our burden.
In Matthew 6:27, Jesus said:
"Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?"
This verse reminds us that worrying achieves nothing. It does not extend our lives, improve our circumstances, or change the outcome of any situation. Instead of worrying, we should learn to trust God and focus on solutions rather than problems.
2. Learn to Live One Day at a Time
In Matthew 6:34, Jesus teaches us to focus on the present:
"Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
This does not mean we should neglect planning for the future. Rather, it means that we should not allow anxiety about the future to steal our peace today. Planning for tomorrow is a wise investment, but worrying about tomorrow is a wasted effort.
3. Believe That God Will Take Care of You
God knows your needs better than you do. Matthew 6:32 reassures us:
"Your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things."
If God takes care of the birds in the sky and the lilies in the field, how much more will He take care of you? Instead of worrying, choose to trust in His divine provision. Place your concerns in His hands, knowing that He is fully aware of what you need and is faithful to provide.
Worrying does not add value to our lives. Instead, it drains us emotionally, physically, and spiritually. When we trust God, live in the present, and surrender our anxieties to Him, we will experience true peace.
Let go of worry today—God is in control.
