Myles Munroe: A Life of Purpose, Service, and Legacy

Some men live to be remembered, but Dr. Myles Munroe lived to serve. He poured himself out completely until there was nothing left to give. His life was a sacrifice on the altar of service—an offering given without hesitation, without regret.

Myles Munroe was an evangelist, minister, author, speaker, and leadership consultant. He was born on April 20, 1954, in Nassau, Bahamas, into a family of eleven children. He was raised in the Nassau constituency of Bain Town.

Munroe became a Christian during his teenage years. Later, he attended Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he earned degrees in Fine Arts, Education, and Theology in 1978. He then pursued further studies at the University of Tulsa, where he obtained a Master’s degree in Administration in 1980.

He was also the recipient of several honorary doctorate degrees from various institutions and served as an adjunct professor at the Graduate School of Theology at Oral Roberts University.

Munroe authored numerous books, including Understanding Your Potential, The Purpose and Power of Love and Marriage, and Rediscovering the Kingdom.

Following his graduation, he founded Bahamas Faith Ministries International (BFMI) in the early 1980s. He began the ministry in a small rented building that could accommodate only a few hundred people. Today, Bahamas Faith Ministries International has thousands of members and is recognized worldwide.

In 1978, Munroe married Ruth Munroe, who served as a co-pastor alongside him at Bahamas Faith Ministries International. Together, they had two children: a son, Myles Jr. (known as Chairo), and a daughter, Charisa.

On November 9, 2014, Munroe and his wife, Ruth, tragically died in a private plane crash during their approach to the airport. Bahamian officials reported that their aircraft struck a crane at a shipyard near Grand Bahama International Airport.

Munroe and the other passengers were en route to Freeport, Grand Bahama, for a conference.

In an interview less than two weeks before his death, Munroe spoke about how believers should live and die. He said:

"I want you to die empty, with nothing else left to do. I want you to die because you poured out all your dreams, ideas, visions, books, music, publications... that you die empty. That's the goal of life."

Myles Munroe had unwavering faith in God's word. He changed lives and gave so much of himself. He spoke to princes, presidents, and prime ministers, influencing their decision-making processes.

What a glorious legacy!
