Five Astonishing Miracles of Joseph Ayobabola
The move and power of God are mighty—so mighty that no mortal can resist them. When they manifest, they penetrate every length and breadth, performing extraordinary miracles and transforming lives in their numbers. Just as God raised men in the past to demonstrate His power—men like Moses, Elijah, Elisha, Joshua, and Gideon—God also raised Joseph Ayo Babalola in our time.
Joseph Ayo Babalola was born on the 25th of April, 1904, in Odo-Owa, Ilofa, present-day Kwara State. At 24 years of age, despite having no ministerial experience, God called him into service with a voice as audible as the roar of thunder. The voice instructed him to fast for seven days. Babalola obeyed and fasted for seven days, after which he was filled with power. He began to perform many miracles. Here are some of the major miracles he performed during his lifetime:
- Raising a Dead Child:
The first remarkable miracle Babalola performed after being filled with power was the raising of a dead child. On the 9th and 10th of July, 1930, a meeting was held among the leaders of the Faith Tabernacle Church in Ilesa to resolve pressing issues within the church. One of the leaders brought Babalola along but excused him during the meeting, as Babalola was not among the leaders of the Faith Tabernacle.
As the meeting proceeded, a sudden interruption occurred from the shouts of people outside the building—Babalola had just raised a dead child. The mother of the resurrected child went about spreading the news, attracting a large crowd. This led to the massive Oke-Oye revival breaking out.
- Delivering a Woman Who Had Been Pregnant for Four Years:
As many people flocked to the Oke-Oye revival, which had continued for weeks, seeking healing, a woman who had been pregnant for four years also came. After narrating her ordeal, Babalola had pity on her. He prayed for her, jingled his bell, and gave her consecrated water to drink. After a few days, the woman safely delivered.
- Burning a Demonic Tree:
A revelation was given to Babalola to burn down a large tree in front of King Owa’s Palace in Ilesa. This tree was known to be the stronghold of witches and wizards, and sacrifices were often made to the spirits residing in it.
Babalola was warned that burning the tree would anger the gods, and he would be killed. However, Babalola proceeded to burn the tree. To the astonishment of all, he did not die but instead grew stronger in the Lord's work.
- Establishing a Prayer Ground in a Demonic Forest:
When Babalola and his followers arrived in Efon-Alaaye, Ekiti, they were warmly received by the Oba, who provided an entire building for their comfort. Babalola requested an open space for prayer, and the Oba willingly gave him the privilege to choose a place.
Babalola chose a place that was a forbidden forest, known for being inhabited by evil spirits. The Oba tried to dissuade them, but Babalola insisted on establishing his prayer ground there. They entered the forest, cleared the area, and consecrated it as a prayer ground. Miraculously, nothing happened to them. When the people saw that they were unharmed, they were inspired and embraced the new faith in large numbers.
- Dethroning a King Who Opposed the Gospel:
At one point, while Babalola was holding a revival meeting in a community, the king of that community sought to obstruct the revival by demanding that Babalola leave. Babalola prophesied against the king, declaring that he would be dethroned. True to Babalola's prophecy, the king was later dethroned.
The life of Ayo Babalola was one dedicated to the manifestation of God's immense power. Through his numerous miracles and wonders, thousands of people were convinced and embraced the gospel. He died on the 26th of July, 1959, at the age of 55.
